What is the classification of toothpaste?

 Functional toothpaste

1. Ordinary toothpaste

Ordinary toothpaste contains friction agents, detergents, foaming agents, moisturizers, preservatives and other ingredients, which play a role in cleaning the mouth, rubbing to remove odors and food residues.

2. Functional toothpaste

The special effect toothpaste is based on the ordinary toothpaste, and then other ingredients are added to make the toothpaste more effective.

Common functional toothpastes are:

Fluoride toothpaste: Fluoride is added to the toothpaste. If the amount is within a safe range, fluorine can form a protective layer on the surface of the tooth, improve the anti-corrosion ability of the tooth, and reduce the possibility of bacterial reproduction and dental caries.

Anti-allergic toothpaste: Potassium nitrate or strontium chloride is added to the toothpaste. Both of them have the effect of resisting allergies and are suitable for people with dentine hypersensitivity, and can alleviate the phenomenon of dental hypersensitivity.

Chinese herbal toothpaste: certain Chinese herbal medicines are added to the toothpaste, such as honeysuckle, peppermint, Tianqi, Sophora flavescens and so on. It has a relieving effect on periodontitis, red and swollen gums, bleeding gums, bad breath and other problems. It should be noted that when using this type of toothpaste to brush your teeth, it is best to let the foam stay in the oral cavity for more time to make the effect easier.

Detergent whitening toothpaste: Add peroxide or hydroxyapatite to the toothpaste. Through the principle of friction and chemical bleaching, the yellow dirt or smoke stains on the teeth are removed. However, this toothpaste is not actually seen and recognized by dentists. Although it has a certain "whitening" effect, it achieves its purpose by damaging the teeth. Long-term use is likely to cause tooth hypersensitivity and root pain.
